I absolutely get more done when working from a coffee shop compared to any other environment. Believe it or not, it is not just the $4 cup of caffeine! I have great caffeine options at home and the office.
There’s just something about that environment that increases my productivity . . . most of the time.
Here are reasons I’ve come up with:
1) Borrow from the energy of the environment
2) Keeps my office/home from becoming too familiar dulling my creativity
3) Creates accountability (can’t just sit there)
4) Fewer interruptions
5) More likely to interact with new people (from the barista to fellow customers, odds increase I’ll meet someone new)
For me, one exception is when I’m working on something that requires longer periods of focus, like a sermon. Then a coffee shop works against me. Too many distractions.
How about you? Are you more productive at a coffee shop? Does it vary based on the task? What environments help you increase productivity?
